New Book Out: 3 Lbs of Nonfiction

A big project, a really big project, has been consolidating the four books I previously wrote on collecting children's books into one large hardcover volume: Encyclopedia of Collectible Children's Books. My writing partner (and fabulous mother) Diane McClure Jones had to take up a lot of slack because this project actually began while I was finishing up Crypt for Wizards of the Coast.

The book took almost a year at the publisher to edit, design, and print (writing is just one small part of the publishing process and not always the most time-consuming part). But it's finally done and out. I just got my copies via UPS this week.

Wow, an encyclopedia of collectible children's books will be great! I'm always on the hunt for great children's books and have recently discovered Bayard and their series of StoryBoxBooks, AdventureBoxBooks and DiscoveryBoxBooks (which is a special Olympic edition) They have work by acclaimed children's books illustrator Helen Oxenbury appearing in the Storybox series for September. In addition to this, they also have some great activities for rainy days: http://www.storyboxbooks.com/potatoprinting.php, http://www.adventureboxbooks.com/macaroni-picture-frames.php, http://www.discoveryboxbooks.com/skittles.php Enjoy!

I actually met Helen Oxenbury some years ago at a BookExpo. She is amazing artist -- we've got copies of her Alice.
